What are the types of scars?

The flat or white ones are the most common, everyone has them or has had them. Although initially they may have a red and/or raised appearance, the scar generally fades over time until, in some cases, it becomes almost invisible. Even if this is not the case, this brand generally remains discreet.

Atrophic scars are those that are dug into the skin. This type of scar has a little difficulty fading over time and often remains reddish. They are common following cases of severe acne and chickenpox. Often we ourselves are the cause! When we scratch pimples or tear off scabs we interrupt the healing process which leaves a mark.

Those in keloids have a reddish relief which extends irregularly around the original wound, they are said to have a “cauliflower” shape. These scars appear during extension caused by the outgrowth of a deeper layer of the skin during healing. This type is seen more often in children and on dark skin, so pregnant women have a risk of this scar getting worse during pregnancy.

Stretched scars are long and slightly indented. They occur when the elasticity of the skin reaches its limit during stretching. Stretch marks are the most well-known scars of this type.
