What can cause age spots?

Solar lentigo

These are round, light brown spots that appear following repeated exposure to the sun with age. They are also called sun spots or age spots. They are present on the skin surfaces most exposed to the sun, most of the time the face, hands and neckline.

Chloasma

pigment spots caused by hormonal change. These spots are due to excess melanin production associated with hormonal imbalances. Chloasma is most often located on the cheeks, forehead and above the lips.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

This is when the body produces more melanin following an injury, it is a natural defense mechanism. Exposure to the sun during healing causes pigmentation. Pigmented scars can also appear in cases of acne or insect bites. These are spots that persist after the pimple has disappeared if it has not been properly treated.
